For your consideration is this antique sword stick. Sword sticks were popular for gentlemen to carry in the 18th and 19th Centuries as swords were becoming less socially acceptable to carry openly. This sword stick is black with brass and silver (possibly genuine silver) trim. The top of the stick features a very unique carving of a hand palming the back of a man's head--his face being visible on one side. The tip is wood but has a brass collar for reinforcement. Grasping the stick with both hands and pulling on the handle reveals an 18.5" sharply pointed spike-like sword. On both sides of the forte part of the blade (wide part nearest the handle) is etched a series of unknown symbols (four on one side and five on the other). The sword stick is in good overall condition; it measures 33" in overall length.
