Antique Sun Purpled Oil Lamp. 11.5''H x 5.5'' diameter. Missing chimney and rusty wick area. Historically it was noticed that this glass made without lead but containing manganese was found to turn a very light lavender if placed in a sunny window or otherwise exposed over time to (ultraviolet) rays of the sun. At some unknown point, antique dealers set glass out and if it turned purple, it proved to them and to their customers that the glass was made prior to ca. 1915 when most, but not all, glass companies ceased using manganese and substituted selenium as the clearing agent.

Items not paid for upon the non pay warning, will be relisted for resale within 10 days. You represent that you are over the age of 18 and can enter into legal contracts. Any Bidder that has never purchased from us, may be asked for credit card information prior to Approval To Bid.
*** The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser, regardless of the time the bids were placed. In the event of a tie between bidders, the auctioneer shall have the sole and final discretion either to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the article in dispute.
