Manufactured in 1896. This takedown rifle features a special order 26" rapid taper lightweight "pencil" barrel, half magazine, and shotgun style buttplate. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address, nickel steel marking at the left rear and "30 W.C.F." on top at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1894 / -WINCHESTER- / PAT. AUG. 21 1894" and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. Ramped blade front and three leaf Winchester Express rear sights. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the serial number, takedown rifle, 30 caliber, round barrel, plain trigger, extra light weight, 1/2 magazine, rubber shotgun butt, that it was received in the warehouse on September 14, 1898 and shipped to order number 4713 the next day.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel and magazine retain 95% original thinning blue finish with areas fading to a smooth plum patina. There are a few small areas of moderate pitting in the area of the barrel address. The receiver retains 80% original thin blue finish with high edge wear, areas of smooth gray patina and a small amount of minor pitting on the upper rear edges. The hammer and lever show strong original case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood is very good plus with almost all of the original varnish remaining and overall scattered minor pressure dents, dings and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
