Sugar tongs, antique English silver, London, 1797. Antique silver sugar tongs by an English maker whose name is a wonderful conversation piece: Samuel Godbehere! These antique silver sugar tongs have very beautiful brightcut engraving even on tips. Top curve of sugar tongs has oval medallion flanked by flowerheads, presently empty, for inscription or monogram. 5-1/2"L. Made by London silversmith with a priceless name: Samuel Godbehere (see Wyler, pg. 166). Silver touchmark of Samuel Godbehere & Edward Wigan, 1797 London. Impeccable condition. Another great find for the fussy collector of antique silver tableware.
