Item/Description: C. Sharps Model 1C Pepperbox Pistol. .22 Caliber. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: C. Sharps & Co. Frame Stamped "C. Sharps & Co. / Philada. PA." and "C. Sharps / Patent 1859" on the reverse. Serial number "49829" stamped to grip. Brass frame and checkered wooden grip.
Made with a production run of 1859 through 1874 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Christian Sharps invented his famously large bore, breech-loading rifle in 1848, after practicing gun-making under John Hall at Harpers Ferry Armory.

Provenance paperwork found with this piece (as shown in photos) states in part: "General Sherman's Personal Derringer. Carried by the General on his March from Atlanta to the Sea. The General gave it to his personal Aide, Captain Taylor at the end of the Civil War." We have not been able to positively corroborate the above, but we are including the paperwork with this lot.
