From 1864 to 1914 the English Vanity Fair weekly magazine featured a full page caricature of a person of prominence at that time. Most of the prints were colored by chromo-lithography, an arduous method of Victorian printing using several limestone blocks. They were offered as collectors items to encourage sales of the magazine and have since become highly sought after by collectors and non collectors alike. Among the subjects are sportsmen, lawyers/judges, artists, actors, explorers and politicians, to name a few, many of whom became famous historical figures. Framed in a green and gilt frame, some toning present.
