<td width="100%">
An unframed antiqu 1937 print by Andre Derain, the great experimentalist of today. He served seven years in the French Army, four of them in the World War.
During this time he did not paint a single picture. When he returned to painting, the restlesness of war found its way into his work. He turned from Classicism to Cubism to Impressionism and back to Classicism. His tendency was to paint in a highly personal and imaginative way, to rearrange the shapes of objects, to alter the color of things. That is called "modern art". This is a 1937 original print from the National Committee For Art Appreciation headed by Eleanor Roosevelt. The prints were made and then the project was abandoned and the collection was put in a warehouse for over twenty five years. These lithograph prints were discovered in 1962 and are considered to be of the highest quality.
