Antique Victorian cup of translucent porcelain in a spectacular ornamental design echoing 19th C. draperies. Antique porcelain cup is covered in bright gold enamel, plus four reserves of alternating fuschia and opalescent ivory glaze. The ivory is as irridescent as mother of pearl which the camera cannot capture. This antique cup's thin bone china body is deeply molded with sunflower "buttons", with drapery pleats, with leafage and scrolls, with gadrooning and festoons of graduated beading. Cup has ribbed handle, top and bottom edges deeply scalloped. 3.5"H, 4" W. Cup bears no maker's name but is marked with gold 1. probably English, ca. 1860. Some finger wear to gold on handle and bottom curve of cup, otherwise in perfect condition. Spectacular antique showpiece from a private collection.
