On one side of this pincusion a church with a steeple is nestled by a tall tree; this serene image was crosstitched in wool tones of brown and rust on beige. The back side is made of brocade fabric patterned with leaves and flowers in brown and shades of beige. It looks very old and primitive--maybe even handwoven. You can see that the pincusion was handcrafted by the X-shaped stitches fastening the two fabrics together at one end. This is as my grandmother taught me to make pillows: turn the fabric inside out and sew three sides; then right it, stuff it, and sew the remaining end together from the outside. The pincusion is filled with some small beadlike or seedlike material; I am not going to open it to find out exactly what. On the first image (of the church) you may note two dark spots that look like dirt, however, they are not. They appear to be places where very large pins or needles were stuck in it for a long time. This is a beautiful sewing collectible.
