Antique Percussion Gallery Rifle, having a most unusual action, and unmarked as to serial number or maker, perhaps .17 or BB cal., 24.75'' octagonal barrel has dovetailed blade front and heavy notched rear sights; flat serpentine lockplate has a back-action hammer connected to a long rod through the barrel that reaches a percussion nipple accessed via an open bottom port; the rod strikes the nipple and fires the gun, the actual bore comprising just the uppermost 7.5'' of the barrel. Double set triggers. Oil-finished walnut halfstock has raised aprons on either side of lock, a gracefully carved cheekpiece, loop trigger guard with long front and rear tangs, crescent buttplate, and a single barrel wedge. Condition is very good retaining no original finish but a smooth gunmetal gray-brown color. Stock is sound with numerous handling marks and discoloration. Action works but does not hold full-cock; bore is inaccessible. Est.: $150-$300. (Antique)
