Mfg. By Mc. Cormick Makers, Calgary, AB As a young boy, Pat McCormick was fascinated while on visits to his grandfather saddlery in Calgary. He loved the aroma of leather and was amazed by the things that could be done with it by skilled artisans. Pat’s grandfather, Eneas McCormick, founded Riley & McCormick Ltd. in 1901 and enjoyed considerable success in the industry, forging a reputation for quality and reliable products. Riley & McCormick was eventually the last of the pioneer saddleries remaining in business in Calgary.

Pat started working with leather in his early teens. Careers got in the way but the lure of leather never faded away. Finally, in 2004, Pat found a saddle maker to train him and a serious commitment to making saddles and leather products resulted. The satisfaction of completing his first saddle resulted in a determination to continue in the industry. It took time to collect the necessary specialist tools and industrial sewing equipment. In the meanwhile, Pat sought advice and mentorship from other saddle makers in the area. Eventually a saddle shop was set up in the garage behind Pat’s Calgary home. Today, Pat McCormick Saddlery offers a range of services including custom saddles and tack, repairs for saddles and other leather items and restoration of collectible saddles.
