<td width="100%">
Discovered in England, this unusual steel ship's lantern is of
german origin. It has a plaque that reads"VEB
Schiffslaternerwerk Ueckermunde". VEB means state-owned
enterprise, common form during post-WW-II-State German
Democratic Republic. VEB Schiffslaternenwerk Ueckermünde was
founded in 1948. The patent number is Nr
7681. It is similar in design to those found on English fishing
boats of the same period. It was an oil burning
lamp that can
still be used as such. The last photo shows it in the company of
other lanterns from the same ship. It is slightly different from
the others in that it looks like it would fit in a corner as it is
triangular at the back with a rounded front. Perhaps a stern
light. but it has remnants of red paint ? (It is last one - on the
far right of the line up)
