In the 16th and 17th centuries, during the 'Ching' Dynasty, carved and engraved Chinese Mother of Pearl chips were used to play popular card games. These extraordinarily beautiful gaming chips (also known as counters) were specifically designed and hand carved by the Chinese for export to Great Britian and France by way of the Far East Trading Company. These counters (generally exported in sets) were highly prized and sought after, despite their high cost. During this last century, a select few of these counters, such as the one pictured here, have been choosen for transformation into heirloom quality jewelry. Individually set in a 14kt gold bezel, this pendant represents not only a beautiful object of adornment and historically significant work of art , but also a rare investment opportunity. Purchase includes a Certificates of Authenticity.
