Map of Marseille , copper-engraved, colored. 17 x 22 ". In very good condition, does have some fraying around the edges. This is a richly hand-colored 17th-century bird’s-eye view of Marseille, France, likely published by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg in their famed city atlas Civitates Orbis Terrarum. The map depicts the fortified port city with detailed renderings of buildings, streets, harbors, and ships, capturing the bustling maritime character of Marseille during the early modern period. In the foreground, two finely dressed figures stand atop a rocky outcrop, emphasizing both the city’s topography and its importance as a Mediterranean trading hub.
