This beautiful hand coloured copperplate miniature map of "The Straits of Magellan" was published by Mercator/Hondius in Mercator's Historia Mundi, in London, England in 1635.

Gerdandus Mercator (1512-1594), is considered to be one of a handful of early mapmakers whose maps were not only aesthetically pleasing but as geographically precise as current knowledge would allow.
