This is a wonderful antique Maori Island wood carving of a deity.antique Moari "tiki" . This appears to be a North Island tiki, which personifies the original Man. It is a powerful, powerful symbol of good luck. They are meant to be carried with the person, which is why they are small. It looks like a small totem or fetish, a depiction of an Island deity. The eyes are inlaid mother of pearl and the tongue is painted in old red paint, probably a natural color. The details are fine and some parts are chip carved in a tribal fashion. It dates to the late 1800s 19th Century. It measures 3.75 x 1 inches. There is a wee crack in the left mother of pearl eye and one foot may be chipped though I am not sure, minor, overall in very good condition. A wonderful piece of Maori history and culture.
Shipping and insurance are determined after checkout.
