Featured in this lot is a set of two antique railroad adzes with long handles and one pry bar. A railroad adze was a carpenter's adze which had its bit extended in an effort to limit the breaking of handles when shaping railroad ties (railway sleepers). The first tool, which has been painted, is marked "NPRY" (North Pacific Rail Yard) and was used in building the transcontinental railroad (1863-1869). The second adze is marked "UM. St. P. & P.R.R." and includes a new handle. The last tool is a Union Pacific Railroad pry bar. These tools are in good condition.
