<td width="100%">
This colorful battle scene lithograph illustrates "The Cairo Revolt" of October 21-23, 1798, where Egyptians revolted against Napoleon's occupation army. French occupation of Egypt between 1798-1801 was the first colonial conquest with academic as well as martial objectives. More than 160 scholars accompanied the French army to Egypt and would later form the Institut d?Égypte in Cairo. Text on passepartout reads: "Revolte du Caire, Weber d'apres Marin, Litho de C. Motte." The date of the battle, 21 Octobre 1798, is written in pencil in French on the reverse upper right corner. Please note two small tears on the border (upper right and lower left) that are patched on the back and can be covered by passepartout at the time of framing. Please ask questions, request additional photos and shipping costs before bidding.
