Jean Francois Millet, who is famous for his understanding paintings peasant life. Escaped Paris in 1849 with the other terrified residents when cholera struck the city. He fled with his family to nearby Barbizon. Long after the epidemic was forgotten he remained to paint the simple folk who made their home here. He knew peasant life well, for he had been born of parents who tilled the soil and he himself followed the plough. He was 53 before fame came to him, but from then on his name and his work became familiar symbols of peasant toil and it's quiet dignity. Honors have been few and long in coming. This is a 1937 original print from the National Committee for art Appreciation headed by Eleanor Roosevelt. The prints were made and then the project was abandoned and the collection was put in a warehouse for over twenty five years. These lithograph prints were discovered in 1962 and are considered to be of the highest quality
