All Original Authentic Late 19th Century Yi (Choson) Dynasty Korean Ichung Jang (Two-Tiered Chest) from South Cholla Province. This chest was selected from a recent antique expedition to Korea as a very fine example of an elegant clothing chest. It is made of elm for the front panels, paulownia for the sides, and pear wood for the frame. Korean furniture artisans from the Yi (Choson) Dynasty are renowned for their selection and utilization of wood grains, and for their metal designs. This piece is exquisitely decorated with brass butterfly motifs for the locks and hinges, and brass bat motifs for the drawer pulls. The butterfly is a harbinger of good fortune and happiness, and the bat is a symbol of patience. As bats fly slowly in caves to avoid obstacles, so must the owner of this chest rely on this primary virtue. One look at this piece and you will will know why Antique Korean Furniture is widely regarded as the world's very best. We will be happy to email you, upon request, more detailed photos of all the sides, back, top, bottom, and interior. Excellent Condition. 61"(155cm)h x 40"(102cm)w x 18"(46.5cm)d
