This is wonderful 19th century bronze bust of napoleon. I believe this is what is called a triple patina. The bronze has an elegant almost gilded shade his face and bust ? he has a polychrome collar around his neck which is a little bit copper in color. On his hat he has a decoration on the front done in a very deep rich green or verde. And again underneath of that a little cooper color that also matches his collar. The buttons on his jacket are well pronounced as well as the metal. The detail is just truly exceptional. When you turn the bronze around and look at the back of his head it is just amazing that you can see every strain of hair. Also on the back it is signed on the lower right FILZE or TILZE (I?m not sure if the first letter is an F or L) and over on the lower left there is a foundry mark or monogram of the maker which looks almost like a kite or an umbrella. I am thinking that this bronze dates form the Craftsmen Era ? and that is just my feeling it could quite possibly be earlier. I have not yet been able to research the mark or the artist ? but I hope to get to that soon. Anyways neither here nor there ? a wonderful art sculpture of one of histories most prolific people. It measures 9?at highest x 4? at widest x 2 ¾? at deepest.
