<td width="100%">
American windsor signed rocking chair, Federal period country furniture, ca. 1825. Signed by Boston chairmaker HUBBARD, who advertised "fancy chairs" in the 1820s. This adult rocker in the so-called "butterfly spindle" form. Its original black paint is now very dry and flaking but untouched. A cat's claws long ago took a toll on a small strip of the original rush, but the seat remains strong and usable when covered with a cushion. Joints tight, no repairs, no re-paint. Unusual and handsome form.
