Antique Engraved Single Action English Percussion Pepperbox, by Henry Osborn of Birmingham, NVSN, .38 cal., 3.375" hand-revolved 5-shot fluted barrel group appears to be Damascus steel, has screw-out ramrod that also acts as arbor; frame is marked "H. Osborn" at left, has floral engraving, right-side hammer with sliding safety, bulbous nipple shield, separate loop trigger guard, integral grip tangs and finely-checkered "bag-style" varnished walnut grips having trapdoor at butt for spare nipples. Mfg'd ca. 1830s-1850s. Condition is very good retaining Damascus pattern but no finish to barrels, the balance smooth gunmetal gray. Excellent grips show little use and sharp checkering. Edges, markings and engraving are fine, nipples are sound, action is crisp, smoothbores are clean. Henry Osborn died 1827 and the business was taken over by his brother, Thomas, who apparently retained the "H. Osborn" company name. Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
