Antique English Screw-Barrel Percussion Boxlock Pistol, by Henry Nock, NVSN, .45 cal., 1.625" round barrel has engraving at muzzle, sunken Birmingham proof and removal-wrench lug at bottom; rounded brass boxlock frame is marked "H. Nock" at left, "London" at right ahead of leaf engraving, has central hammer with sliding rear safety and unique forward-hinged device, three proofs at bottom front and a folding trigger that drops when hammer is cocked, integral straps for the 1-pc. checkered walnut bag grip having a vacant diamond nameplate at wrist and silver relief "lion's head" buttcap. Mfg'd ca. 1830s-40s. Condition is near excellent, the metals being clean and bright with light patina, sharp edges, marks and engraving. Grips have sharp checkering with a few light impressions and most original varnish. Action is crisp but does not hold cock, smoothbore is clean and bright. Apparently this pistol was originally made in percussion, not altered from flint, so Nocks' successors must have continued using his name for decades afterward due to its long renown. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
