Antique E.M. Reilly & Co. Breechloading Single-Shot Percussion Sporting Carbine, #13538, .60 cal., 24.25" round barrel with block-blade (blade missing) front sight and vacant rear dovetail, marked with "(crown)/GP", "25" and "(crown)/V" London proof marks at breech; flat lockplate marked "E.M. Reilly & Co." under bolster (has chain-retained lead nipple protector); receiver has flip-up thumb lever that moves sliding breechblock (marked "Green Bros./Patent/No. 99") rearward for loading a prepared cartridge with integral "pusher"; steel fittings comprise trigger guard marked "13538" at rear tang, shotgun-style buttplate, 2 clamping bands, nosecap, grooved/slotted ramrod (a likely replacement). All screw heads are engraved. Varnished walnut fullstock is checkered at forend and wrist, has sling stud at belly. Mfg'd ca. 1860s. Condition is very good retaining perhaps 15% original blue and generally smooth blue-brown gunmetal, showing occasional oxidation/light roughness, traces of case colors, sharp edges and markings. Stock is sound with sharp checkering, pleasing grain, color and finish. Breechblock moves smoothly and locks up tight. Action is crisp, bore shows overall moderate etching and very good rifling.
