Antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Stag Grips and Colt Museum Letter
Manufactured in 1877. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line Hartford address with the left side marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45". The left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent date marking. The frame and trigger guard are marked "39715" with no visible number on the backstrap. The loading gate is marked "3430". Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, casehardened frame, and blue remaining parts, fitted with two piece stag grips. The accompanying copy of a Colt Museum letter verifies the serial number as being manufactured in 1877, the markings, and that black powder ammunition must be used in this revolver. With a letter from Colt Museum, Curator Charles H. Coles.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 LC
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: stag
Serial Number: 39715
Condition: Very good as refinished. The barrel retains virtually all of the new blue finish with the restamped markings crisp. The frame shows 30% of the new case colors with a smooth gray patina and light pitting on the balance. The patent markings are shallow but visible, as are the serial numbers on the frame and trigger guard. The cylinder is replaced and retains 99% of the blue finish with only a slight drag line. The grips are very good replacements with only light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
