Antique Colt 3rd Model 1851 Navy Revolver, having small-rounded steel trigger guard, #72398, .36 cal., 7.5'' octagonal barrel with standard sights, marked with maker's name and Hartford address on top flat; round 6-shot cylinder has the rolled naval battle scene, ''Colt's Patent No. 2398'' and ''Pat. Sept. 10th, 1855'' (the latter upside-down); open-top frame has central hammer and trigger, two-piece steel gripstraps, one-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1857 with blued barrel, cylinder, trigger and gripstraps, case hardened frame, lever and hammer. Condition is about very good, the metal retaining no original finishes being gunmetal gray with scattered oxidation over cleaned light pitting, good edges and markings (''Colt's/Patent'' missing from left frame), cylinder scene is light but perhaps 75% visible. Grips are sound showing wear/nicks at butt sides and no original finish. All serial numbers match including lever and wedge. Action is strong; bore is clean showing overall frosting and sharp rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)(John Ackerman collection)
