This antique wooden child's chair has been handmade. It is painted in an old beige-ochre paint and is in overall good condition. It has some looseness in the left arm--where it attaches to the back of the chair on that side--which is due to normal wood shrinkage with age. This can easily be remedied. I recommend a professional restorer.

The chair itself shows its age through its overall thickness of wood and the "settled" quality of the wood. From the floor to the top of the chair is 19 3/4 inches--perhaps this originally was 20 inches, but, again, the factors of handmade design and the age of the wood.

From the seat to the floor is 8 1/2 inches: it is 11 1/4 inches from the seat to the top. The chair has two braces: one at the very top of the back and one between the top and the seat. The topmost brace is 2 1/2 inches, and the second brace is 2 inches. It is 9 inches from the very back of the back to the very front of the arm rest. The seat itself is 1-inch thick wood, and the rest of the chair is made from 1/2-inch thick wood to 1-inch thick wood. The paint overall shows some wear with age but is largely intact.

One can imagine the maker of this chair lovingly creating it for a special child or children many, many years ago. That is its legacy and part of its unique history. This would make a terrific addition to a primitive decor or to a collection of folk art or handmade furniture. Raggedy Ann loves it (she is sold separately!).
