Antique British Enfield Model 1881 MK II Double Action Revolver, #2081, .476 Enfield CF cal., 5.75" round top-break barrel has tall blade front sight, large topstrap with rear sighting groove, characteristic "wings" opposite the cylinder, front hinge; deeply fluted round cylinder has long rear lead-in grooves and auto-extraction; frame marked "(large crown)/V.R./Enfield/1881/II." at right grip juncture, two opposing broad arrow marks (withdrawn from service) and "(crown)/E/5" behind barrel hinge at right, has left-rear thumb release, right-side hinged loading gate, integral loop trigger guard and gripstraps with lanyard ring on oval butt, 1-pc. oil-finished walnut grips. Barrel and cylinder lack British proof marks, perhaps denoting export. This ruggedly-built military revolver was mfg'd ca. 1882-89 and saw extensive service throughout the British Empire, notably in the Boer Wars, Boxer Rebellion and even WWI. Condition is very good retaining no original finish, being dark gunmetal gray with scattered light erosion, dings to barrel top and underside, sharp edges and good markings. Grips show nicks and dings but are sound. Barrel hinge and latch are tight. Action is crisp in both single- and double-action; bore is clean showing very deep rifling. Quite rare. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
