Antique British Colonial Contract Flintlock Infantry Musket, dated 1830, #20, .64 cal., pin-retained 38.5" round barrel is marked with period Birmingham proofs in two places and "20" at breech, has stud-like front sight (likely doubles as a bayonet lug) and cannon-turning at breech; flat lockplate is marked "CTPUK/1830" over a "(cow)" under separate brass pan and "Verrante" vertically on rounded teat area behind the large reinforced cock; brass furniture includes trigger guard with two finger-ribs on long rear tang and iron plug at front tang, buttplate marked with (perhaps Indian, then a British colony) lettering, serpentine sideplate marked "D" and "L81", nosecap and three ferrules retaining the steel button-tip ramrod; fullstock of dark varnished hardwood has sling loop at top ferrule, filled area at belly perhaps for rear loop. Mfg'd ca. 1830. Condition is very good retaining good traces of barrel nickel along stock, else a smooth dark brown. Lock is clean gunmetal gray with sharp markings, brass with light age toning. Stock is sound and smooth showing scattered light marks and wear. Action is crisp, smoothbore shows moderate-to-heavy black powder erosion. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
