History:
Dimensions: Height 22

Griffiths and Morgans were each independent brass founders in New York City before the partnership was formed which produced this pair of andirons. John Griffiths' name first appeared in the 1826 New York Directory and that of Morgan Morgans, Jr. first appeared in 1829. They moved from place to place for a few years until Griffiths established himself at 107 Henry street in 1828. Morgans joined him at that location in 1832. This partnership lasted until 1840 when they were again listed at different addresses in the Directory.

The stamp of this partnership has only been found on one pair of andirons up to this time. They are marked on the side of the brass cover of the billet bar. The mark is composed of two lines but was probably a one-piece stamp in this form GRIFFITHS&/MORGANS. This pair of andirons bears little similarity to the others in this thesis. The shafts were made like Ionic columns except that there is no fluting on the shaft and the volutes are stylized, solid silhouettes, and extend from front to back.

Striving For Excellence
It isnt brilliance or just getting the breaks,
