Antique Boardman & Wells Wooden Works Empire Mahogany Mantel Clock, ca. 1832-1844, stenciled split columns, painted black with gold trim and floral designs, maker's label on inside backboard ''Improved Clocks Manufactured and sold by Chauncey Boardman and Joseph Wells, Bristol, Conn., Warranted If Well Used'', measures approximately 32.5'' x 15.24'' x 5.5'', original painted wood dial with winding arbors at 7 and 9, no weights, original bob, FYI: Chauncey Boardman was born in 1789 and worked in Bristol, CT from 1810-1850. In 1832 he formed a partnership with Joseph Wells and they operated 4 different factories and produced wood movements until 1837 and the introduction of rolled brass. The firm dissolved in 1844 and each continued under their own name.
