Antique Belgian Single Shot Flintlock Military Musketoon, NVSN, .70 cal., 31.5" round barrel marked "T C 40" and "NR" at breech behind an "ELG/(star)" Liege proof, has a bayonet stud 1.125" under muzzle; flat lockplate with rounded rear tail is unmarked, has separate brass pan and reinforced cock; iron furniture includes trigger guard having a sling loop at front and two finger-ribs behind, wide buttplate, serpentine sideplate, three spring-retained bands (upper of the double-strap type with brass blade front sight and integral nosecap/thimble retaining the tulip-tip ramrod, middle with sling loop). Stock of oil-finished walnut has raised aprons at either side of lock, a quatrefoil-like mark at right butt, dished cheekpiece, and "T C/(illegible)" at left. Mfg'd ca. early 1800s. Condition is very good being cleaned metal having scattered discoloration; markings are mostly sharp. Stock is sound with light-to-moderate dings, losses along ramrod channel, a 3" tight grain crack forward of frizzen spring and another between top and middle band springs. Lock appears original flintlock with correct parts, touchhole was likely welded, drilled and filed. Action is strong and crisp, smoothbore has overall light black-powder erosion. Est.: $600-$900.
