Antique Belgian Percussion Target Pistol, with Wood Ramrod, NVSN, .45 cal., 9.625" octagonal barrel, dovetailed small blade front and notch rear sights, Liege proof and "3" at left breech, floral-engraved tang; engraved flat serpentine lockplate has matching hammer; engraved steel fittings include finger-spur trigger guard with leaf front tang, diamond-shaped buttcap with faceted skullcracker, winged sideplate screw escutcheon, single barrel key with two oval German-silver escutcheons. Halfstock of varnished walnut has deep relief vine-pattern carving at nose, and carved full-length grip flutes with delicate incised terminals. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s. Condition is near excellent retaining approx. 95% thinning barrel blue, silvered-out lock, lightly toned fittings. Stock is sound showing minor marks (heavier opposite lock), and most original finish. Action is crisp, bore is bright with sharp rifling, appearing unfired; front sight is ajar in its dovetail. Modern brass-tipped hardwood ramrod with ball handle is fine. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
