Antique Belgian M-1853/67 Albini-Braendlin Single-Shot Military Rifle, Dated 1868, #4890, 11x42mm CF cal., 26.75" round barrel with block-blade front (also bayonet lug) and folding-leaf rear sight (marked "300M"), has numerous marks at breech including "1868", "(crown)/AL", "38", encircled "N", and what may be a "(rampant lion)" within clipped rectangle; receiver has 3" front-hinged breechblock with knob at right, rebounding firing pin, auto-extraction and numerous marks including "38", sunken "P" outside, "K537" and others inside; 6" back-action lock marked with sunken "JP/53" has hammer with sliding striker (marked "4890"; steel fittings include trigger guard with sling swivel, buttplate marked "38", encircled "N" and "4890" at top, 2 spring-retained bands (upper with sling swivel and button), slotted cleaning rod. Oil-finished walnut 3/4 stock. Mfg'd as percussion rifle mid-1850s, altered to metallic cartridge breechloader ca. 1867. Condition is very good retaining approx. 80% thinning military blue and silvered case colors (hammer and buttplate with oxidation), sharp edges and markings. Stock is sound and smooth showing minimal marks, pleasing grain, color and finish. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
