This unique Brighton Pavilion style bamboo mirror likely dates from the Aesthetic Movement period of the late 19th century. Measures 36" wide by 36" tall by 7" deep. Candle platforms feature their original leather paper surfaces, and the left and right panels feature lovely lacquered floral designs. Beveled mirror is not original. There are no other known restorations or repairs of any kind. Rear carries a stamped mark that reads " M & C " and " No. 872 ", which are likely the mark of the maker and a style number. Origin is not known, but it appears likely the piece is English or was possibly made in the far east.
This mirror was purchased from a leading New York city antique dealer along with a handful of other exceptional bamboo pieces, including a glass display cabinet and side table. All are available for sale individually. Currently in storage in Bronx NY 10452.
