Antique American Single-Shot Percussion Long Rifle, by J. Keller, NVSN, .44 cal., 41.25" key-retained heavy octagonal barrel is marked "J. Keller/Carlisle, PA" on top flat, has long dovetailed blade front and notched rear sights, percussion bolster with front/rear flash shields; back-action lock is marked "Wm. Moore & Co."; brass furniture includes long trigger guard with two rear finger-grips, 7.5" engraved open-work patchbox, crescent buttplate with long engraved lower tang and faceted upper, cloud-shaped sideplate, 1.75" nosecap, 3 pipes retaining the brass-tipped hardwood ramrod. Fullstock of highly-figured curly maple has raised fluted cheekpiece and double set triggers. Mfg'd ca. 1850s. Condition is very good, the barrel with later blue over nicks and light pitting, lock is smooth blue-brown, brass lightly age-toned. Stock is sound and smooth having a professionally repaired thru-break at wrist, another at right-front of lock, two secure repaired cracks at left and one at right between the ramrod pipes, lovely grain, color and added finish. Action does not hold cock, bore is clean and lightly frosted with deep rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
