Anthony McAuliffe Autograph Letter Signed "A C McAuliffe". One page, 7.5" x 10.5", September 21 ca. 1966 , Washington, D. C., on personal stationery, blue ink. McAuliffe was the United States Army Officer and acting divisional commander of the 101st Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He refused to surrender, though the American troops were encircled by the Germans at Bastogne, and held out until Patton's arrival. He was subsequently promoted to Major General and served as Commander-in-Chief of the Army in Europe during the 1950s. Here, the celebrated Army General writes to a young man regarding a future in the military and his own career choice. McAuliffe writes, "I am glad to learn from your note that you are considering a military career. I served in the Army for 38 years and have never regretted it." The letter is signed "A C McAuliffe", and accompanied by the mailing envelope addressed in McAuliffe's hand, signing "Gen. A. C. McAuliffe" in the return address area. The letter is in very fine condition, with two usual horizontal mailing folds.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
