Ansley Fox 12ga special order two-barrel set deluxe engraved, fancy checkered select walnut stocks in period leg of mutton leather carrying case marked with original owners name which is illegible in Porterville, CA. Serial number “22665”. There is a large “X” stamped on water table on both barrels along with marking “Fox Proof”. First set of barrels measures 32”, second set measures 28”. The gun shows factory single trigger, auto ejectors, and two matching serial numbered forends. Note in barrel reads, “32 inch: Right .022, left .032. 28 inch barrels: Right .020, left .022”. This high grade Fox shows very deep almost relief engraving with portrait of fox in panel on bottom of frame, game birds and Ansley Fox in small cartouche on each side of frame. The burl wood stocks show nicely checkered and fancy panels. The stock shows a gold owner’s plaque with fancy initials inlayed into its belly. The stock measures approx. 13” to the end of the wood, approx. 13-3/4 to the end of the Packmeyer butt pad. The 32” set of barrels show a period-added Simmons rib with Krupp steel-marked barrels, 90-95% toning blue finish. The 28” barrels show 90-95% thinning original finish with some losses at the edges and normal wear. Bores are very good plus to near fine. The action shows 30-50% light case hardening going silvery with some bright colors in protected areas. The trigger guard shows 50% original thinning blue, the stocks are very good with some light cleaning with steel wool, some slight scratches from normal use and loss of finish but generally very good overall. Mechanically fine and well cared for. The original to-the-period leather case is good to very good with normal travel wear. A scarce and high grade Fox. Est.: $7,500-$12,500.
