Gessner, John Jacob. [SPECIMEN REI NUMMARIÆ, CUM PROLEGOMENSIS ET AMPLISSIMA VETERUM NUMISMATUM COLLECTIONE]. NUMISMATA ANTIQUA FAMILIARUM ROMANARUM. OMNIA QUOTQUOT EX NUMISMATO-PHYLACIIS ET SCRIPTORIBUS DE RE NUMARIA COMPARARE LICUIT. Tiguri (Zürich): Apud Casparum Fuesslinum Pictorem, undated [1738 or slightly later]. Folio [41.5 by 27 cm], original plain gray wraps. Finely engraved title leaf incorporating size chart; 34 finely engraved plates depicting hundreds of Roman Republican coins. Heavily annotated throughout in a small, but neat and meticulous hand. A bit spotted throughout. An unsophisticated copy. Very good or better. These very rare plates were included in few sets of this important work, and are here enhanced with remarkable handwritten annotations.
