Intermediate draft of the novel signed by the author on the first page.<BR><BR>[and:]<BR><B><BR>Corrected Typescript Signed</B></I> "Anne McCaffrey". 292 pages, 8.5 x 11 inches, photocopy of original manuscript with editorial corrections by Jean Karl, McCaffrey's editor at Athenuem. Early draft of <I>Harper of Pern</B></I>, the original title of <I>Dragonsinger</B></I> signed by the author on the first page. Accompanied by a transmittal letter from the publisher, returning the manuscript to McCaffrey after some length of time.<BR><BR>[and:]<BR><B><BR>Partial Working Drafts of Corrected Manuscript</B></I>. 523 pages, various paginations, some ribbon copy, some carbon copy, some photocopy pages with editorial corrections by both the author and the editor. Includes various versions of the first chapter, which McCaffrey rewrote a number of times.<BR><BR>[and:]<BR><B><BR>Nine Typed Letters Signed</B></I> by the editor or McCaffrey's agent dated between June 11, 1975 and March 23, 1977. These letters all concern various aspects of the publication of <I>Dragonsinger</B></I>. Dust jacket lightly toned, else a fine copy.<BR><BR>[and:]<BR><B><BR>Typed Letter Signed </B></I>"Anne McCaffrey". One page, 8.5 x 11 inches, December 17, 1981, plain typing paper. This is a letter of provenance written and signed by the author which accompanied this archive from the beginning, and describes in detail the contents. McCaffrey writes:<BR><BR>"The accompanying materials are the following states of my manuscript for 'Dragonsinger' which was originally titled 'A Harper of Pern' (HOP).<BR><BR>#1 288 pages of final draft with notations in my hand, with one page of cast of characters, also amended by myself in ballpoint, and in blue pencil by Jean Karl, my editor at Atheneum. Typed at Shanganagh Vale, County Dublin; Vancouver, Washington, and New York City on various typewriters, between June 1975 and April 1976.<BR><BR>#2 273 of intermediate draft, some carbon ribbon, some carbons of rewrites.<BR><BR>#3 276 pages of manuscript with Atheneum editorial corrections by Jean Karl, returned to me with letter from Gail Paris in 1979.<BR><BR>#4 523 pages of working draft on newsprint paper, carbon and Xerox (which accompanied me on my tour while original remained at home) with notations in my hand, and in some places in blue pencil by Jean Karl, and the various versions of the first chapter which I rewrote fourteen times.<BR><BR>Enclosed with this letter of provenance are 9 letters, from June 11, 1975 - November 1976, between Jean Karl and myself; one from Jean Karl to Virginia Kidd, my agent; and a cogent letter from Virginia Kidd to myself and two carbons of my replies; all relating to the progress and recommendations anent 'A Harper of Pern' which emerged into print as Dragonsinger.<BR><BR>All of the above items are recognized by me as being authentic and have been signed at Dragonhold.<BR><BR>Anne McCaffrey<BR><BR>At Dragonhold, Kilquade, Greystones, County Wicklow"<BR><BR>All documents are in very good or better condition, with light wear to some edges and minimal toning.
