Peter Lely (1618-1680) was a well known (originally Dutch) portrait painter for the Royal Court of England in the 17th Century . He was also a teacher, and this portrait is an fine example of the works produced by Lely and his students . The painting has been restored more than once and , if cleaned professionally , would reveal the dazzling color palette Lely was known for . The canvas is over 500 years old and shows its age, although it was linen backed at some point in its lifetime, giving it more strength. The frame is old, but its age is not known. The artwork measures 41.5x32.75". Ship weight approx. 35 lbs.
