Anna Harrison ALS w/ Wm. H. Harrison Signature
William Henry Harrison and Anna Harrison on Same Letter. A two-fer: a Signature of William Henry Harrison attached to an Anna Harrison Autograph Letter Signed; one page, 8" x 10", Northbend, September 27, 1861. To G.M.C, Esqr. Affixed to this blue sheet is a clipped Signature of William Henry Harrison "Willm H. Harrison", 4" in length and 1" at its broadest point. Collectors of presidential autographs all know the drear news about William Henry Harrison. In office just a month, he is almost unobtainable as president, available chiefly as an aide to General Anthony Wayne, and if his widow, Anna Tuthill Symmes Harrison, hadn't clipped signatures from his letters to oblige collectors, we'd all be worse off now. Here is an unusual example of the magnanimous Mrs. Harrison at work, in that both her explanation of the task, and her husband's signature itself, are present together. "An apology was not needed in asking for an Autograph, I am only sorry that now when I am applied to for them I have to cut them from my letters having been so often asked for them. Hoping it will not come too late for your purpose, I am Sir, your sincere friend." With typed transcription. A few tiny tears at the bottom margin, and a pencil note concerning provenance, neither affecting text, do not mar this very fine piece. Anna Harrison is scarce and her husband, in his early form of his signature, is likewise very uncommon. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
