Anna Freud. Daughter of the founder of
Anna Freud. Daughter of the founder of psychoanalysis. Holder of no degrees, her work was based on collaboration with her father. She worked as teacher, then as a psychoanalyst in London in private practice and lecturer at the Psychoanalytic Institute. A.L.S., Vienna, Feb. 28, 1934 (five years before Sigmund Freud's death), 11/4 pp., in English, to a book publisher in New York. "...I was very interested to hear that you are bringing out in America my book Introduction to Psycho-Analysis for Teachers. You ask me for biographical data concerning myself to be used in the body or on the jacket of the book. But I would be very glad if you would avoid doing that. After all, the book should speak for itself and there is nothing interesting to tell about me. I would be very pleased to hear that the American public is interested in my presentation of the elements of psycho-analysis. Yours sincerely, Anna Freud." She signs with both names joined as one, and no use of the capital letter "F." On her printed letterhead. A paper clip has left a rust mark at upper left corner touching her last name on front, and two words on verso; dampstain in upper black margin. Small rubber date-stamp in blank area, indicating arrival date of letter in New York. Rare.
