Angus McBride Gouache and Graphite on Paper, Thutmose III, Signed
A striking mixed-media composition by renowned historical illustrator Angus McBride, signed lower right. Executed in gouache and graphite on paper, this piece features a full-color rendering of Pharaoh Thutmose III (also inscribed as Thothmes III), who ruled Egypt circa 1510 to 1450 BC. Depicted in ceremonial dress, the pharaoh wears a blue khepresh crown, scale armor overlaid with gold chest straps, and a kilt adorned with a lion-headed belt and ornate detailing. At right, two Egyptian warriors are illustrated in graphite, one kneeling with a leopard-hide quiver and bow, the other standing with a feathered standard. McBride's command of costume detail, pose, and period accuracy is evident throughout. The upper right margin is inscribed with the subject's name and reign.
