Angelo Bee Engraved and Gold Inlaid Winchester Model 12 Slide Action Shotgun, #853544, 28 ga., 2-7/8'', polished blue finish, 28'' barrel having a 5/16'' Simmons floating doughnut post ventilated rib with 1/8'' red bead front sight and chamber-stamped ''MOD.'' choke measuring .016''. Final proofmarks are offset indicating rib is probably factory installed. This circa 1940 gun is extensively custom engraved in the style of original Winchester No. 12-5 patterns with a gold inlaid grouse and two gold inlaid English Pointers in a woodland scene on the left side of the receiver, and four gold inlaid mallards in flight over wetlands on the right side. Game scene panels have broad scroll and punch borders that follow to the receiver extension and triggerguard; lower receiver extension has a pigeon lightly engraved, the trigger is gold plated and has a manual button safety in the triggerguard; carrier, breech bolt and extractor are jeweled. The custom stock and slide handle are flame figured semi-fancy American walnut finished in a high-gloss with 20-line-per-inch sharp diamond checkering and black Winchester hard rubber cap on the pistol grip; length of pull is 14-1/4'' over a black Winchester hard rubber buttplate, drop at comb is 1-1/2'', drop at heel is 2-1/4'', pitch is 2-1/2'', weight is 7-1/2 lbs. The upgraded and refinished condition remains 99% with small areas of cycling wear on the action slide and magazine tube; minor earlier pitting appears under the re-blue near triggerguard; receiver extension, magazine band and buttplate screws are drifting to plum, and screw heads, buttplate and pistol-grip cap are lightly marred. Stock has faint handling marks with slightly oversized inletting at the triggerguard. Action is sound, bore is bright. Contained in a later fabric and leather key-lock takedown case with maroon felt lining; included in the case are a Model 12 instruction manual and warranty card from the early 1960's, along with skeet championship medals from 1962 and 1964, and Angelo Bee signed Certificate of Authenticity. Est.: $4,000-$6,000. (C&R)
