Signed book: The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B & Back Again). First edition, later printing. NY: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1975. Hardcover with dustjacket, 5.75 x 8.5, 241 pages. Signed and inscribed vertically in red felt tip on the half-title page, “To Lawrence, Andy” adding a quick sketch of a soup can, and also initialed in black felt tip “AW.” In fine condition, with pencil notation to top of signed page, scattered foxing to fore edges, and a bit of light wear to dustjacket. The book’s recipient is Lawrence Vollmer, for whom Warhol worked at Horne’s Department Store in Pittsburgh. Vollmer was the only person from Pittsburgh acknowledged as an inspiration to Warhol. Accompanied by a hardcover edition of the Biography of Andy Warhol, by Victor Bockris, signed and inscribed to Vollmer, as well as a three page TLS from Bockris to Vollmer regarding the book and interviews with Warhol. A fine item with a personal connection to Warhol, made even more desirable by featuring the subject that made him the most renowned American pop artist.
