Andy Warhol silkscreen print with diamo
"Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987)

Title: Mildred Scheel (s. 6009)

Medium: Original silkscreen print with diamond dust on Arches paper. 1980, , signed by the artist in pencil, lower right. The catalogue raisonee states that the prints are also signed in felt pen by Mildred Scheel, the president of the German Cancer Society. Ours are not signed by her and we have seen many examples of this piece none of which have been signed. We conclude that the catalogue is wrong on this occasion.

Edition: 594/1000. There were also 5 HC copies made.

Note: This was published to raise funds for the German Cancer Society. Dr. Mildred Scheel (1932 - 1985) , M.D. was a radiologist and the Wife of the President of the Federal Republic, who, before her marriage, led a self-supporting life and raised her illegitimate daughter. In 1969, at the age of 37, she married Walter Scheel, who became the President of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1974, and with whom she had another daughter and one adopted son from a native orphanage in La Paz. Her young age, her genuine personality, her family, but especially her work for the Cancer Society made her very popular in the general public. She fought against illnesses that are related to tumors, and for the financial support of research, preventative measures, therapy options, and the care of the ill. Although she stayed out of politics, she used her role as the First Lady to collect donations for the Cancer Society. Mildred Scheel died in 1985 due to colon and liver cancer.
