Hawai'ian milo wood
6 x 12 x 11 (largest bowl)

This five piece natural edge nested bowl set is turned from Milo (pronounced mee-low) which is one of Hawaii's most cherished woods. The heartwood turns from a deep purple color to a rich, dark brown as it ages and has spectacular contrast with the light colored sap wood. This particular set has an especially rich, dark chocolate color and has some unique inclusions in the bark edges. It looks stunning both nested together as a set or displayed in a variety of different arrangements.

About Andy Cole:

Throughout his life, the intricate beauty of wood grains and the amazing works of wood art have fascinated Andy. After learning the basics in woodturning about twenty years ago through a class at the local Woodcraft store, he was hooked! Shortly thereafter he joined the Honolulu Woodturner’s Club and the American Association of Woodturners where he was able to learn so much from others. What started as a hobby soon blossomed into a full time passion and profession.

While Andy enjoys many aspects of turning, producing natural edge bowls gives Andy the ability to integrate the organic beauty of wood into an aesthetically pleasing form. Not wanting to waste the inside of the vessel, he learned how to core multiple natural edge nested bowl sets from one piece of wood. This has become his best known signature work. Andy’s nested sets are collected around the world and are in many prestigious private and public collections.
