Andrew Mellon - Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company (Pennsylvania) A 1917 certificate in green and black issued to and signed on the verso by Andrew Mellon. Mellon amassed one of the largest fortunes in American history. He organized numerous large oil properties in the 1890's, eventually selling them to John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company. As a founder of some of America's largest corporations, including ALCOA and Gulf Oil, Mellon was to become one of the wealthiest men in America. His later years were devoted to political service and philanthropy. He served as Secretary of the Treasury from 1921-32 and was Ambassador to Great Britain from 1932-33. He died in 1937 and is buried at Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery in Upperville, Virginia. Extremely Fine. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
